RJ,

I would suggest you look at the information on this website on career training in sport psychology. It is an informative brochure on different career "tracks" people might take to obtain training. If you would like additional information, please feel free to e-mail me directly.

In my experience the key is develop close links with an institution that has staff involved in applied sport psychology work. If they are known to have experience in working with athletes then it will not be uncommon for them to be contacted by performers requiring support. If you can use the member of staff as a mentor and take on individual projects on an expenses bases, this is a great stepping stone to developing your own network of athletes.
