World's Fastest Elevator

Good topic, Steve!

Lift-Net is currently running a survey to find out where the "world's fastest elevator" is located. Visit their site by clicking here .

According to this Great American Strutures site , the "world's fastest elevator" is located in the Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas, Nevada. They claim upwards of 2500 FPM. Maybe some Otis brothers out in L.V. can verify this?

Another claim to the world's fastest elevator, is the Yokohama Landmark Tower in Yokohama, Japan (just outside Tokyo). These are Mitsubishi elevators and run at a speed of 750 M/M (2460 FPM).

Mitsubishi Electric's Elevator site claims that they have the "World's Fastest Elevator". It is the 750 M/M (meters per minute), 2460 FPM (feet per minute) elevator which is installed in the Yokohama Landmark Tower, serving the "Sky Garden" observation landing.

Anyone needing to convert velocity (M/M to FPM, etc.), please feel free to visit my ElevatorMax) Conversions & Equivalents Page at http://www.geocities.com/WallStreet/1484/floor3.htm

Ray Griffin

I've been on both of them.

I have rode in both the Stratosphere tower Elevators, and the ones in the Yokohama Landmark tower.

My opinion is that the Landmark are slightly faster(they have a digital readout for cars speed inside the car). The only thing is that they maintain there FASTEST SPEED for about 2 seconds total.

Stratosphere are definately the fastest in the US. (And they are double decker elevators to boot!!!)

fast elevator

In fact, the fastest elevator ever made was the Hale Elevator. It had unlimited top speed except for wind limitation. Company purchased by Otis and all prints etc, destroyed. The son of Hale was the leading person in building the famous telescope on Mt. Palomar.

Stratosphere

Las Vegas Stratosphere...It is definately the fastest, but I forget the speed. I believe it was 2600 feet per minute. Another good elevator site in Vegas is in the LUXOR hotel. THE Luxor is a hollow pyramid with elevators going from the interior base to the tip..... They are called inclinators not elevators...

Taipei’s 101 tower at 1008 meters per min or 34.36 miles per hour compared to the stratosphere tower at a mere 2500 ft/sec or 28.41 miles per hour
