I'm interested in both modeling and writing a history of the rail line that was the Atlantic and Yadkin Railway (Sanford, NC to Mt. Airy plus branches). I want to include the history of it's predecessor, the Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley Railway and I would definitely want to cover it's history while the line was part of the Southern Railway (1899-1916 and 1950-1982). Eventually I would be interested in its current status as part of Norfolk Southern.

I'm currently interested in anything people have which would help me understand this relatively obscure rail line in North Carolina: photos, timetables, historical materials, archives, persons who worked on this line.

I'm currently in touch with Marvin Black and Garreth McDonald who have given me a wonderful start. I also have a copy of all papers in the Virginia Tech archive related to the Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley. Please drop me a line if you have any information:

Somewhere around here I have a print of a depot that is lettered "Cape Fear&Yadkin Valley" on the end. I copied this nearly twenty years ago and at the time had no clue as to what it was. If I can find it you are welcome to it.

You might want to get in touch with Bill Griffin.When he was writing his book on the "Atlantic&Danville Rwy" he might have come across information on your railroad.I haven't been in touch with him since the 1980's and I think he was with the personnel dept. of the RF&P(now part of CSX.?)
