film vs digital qualitygreenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread |
I want to publish photos. My options are:A) to shoot them on film, develop and print them, scan them and then do my desktop publishing.
B) to shoot them with a digital camera, download the images and then do the desktop publishing.
Question: What will result in higher resolution pictures once published... shooting with a $500. film camera or a $1000. digital camera ?

There no digital camera priced under $1000 that will provide the same resolution as film. The main advantage to digital is you don't waste film/processing on unwanted photos. If you are printing 4 X 6 in your DTP then a digital camera is fine, you won't notice the difference. If you decide to go the film route you might want to consider a film scanner. Olympus and Nikon make good units. This will make your work a lot easier than using a regular scanner.I take a LOT of pictures and rarely go beyond 4 x 6 prints so digital is more conveient for me. It also allows me to share them with family members that have email accounts.
