Is there going to be a sequel?greenspun.com : LUSENET : TitanicShack : One Thread |
All my friends are saying that they are going to make a sequel to the film TITANIC. Is this true, and if so, what's this all about? How can they make a sequel? THE SHIP HAS SUNK!!!

Better be not...

They can't make a sequel if the ship has already Sunk!!! You can only really make a sequel to the movie if the sequel was about what Rose did for the rest of her life until we saw her at the start of the origianl movie.

I read in a magazine a few weeks ago that there are several ideas being tossed around for a sequel but the frontrunner goes a little like this:Jack is picked up by one of the lifeboats just after Rose let him go (?). Jack has amnesia and doesn't remember even being on board the Titanic (of course) and he and Rose meet again during the First World War, Jack as a soldier, Rose as a nurse.
Anyway, Rose gets shot and killed by a sniper and Jack is comforted by another nurse, namely Gwyneth Paltrow or Claire Danes, don't ask me how they explain the 101 year old survivor Rose from the original movie though.

A sequel to this film is about as possible as a sequel to Howard the Duck and Ishtar. Fox, Paramount, and especially James Cameron would not do anything this stupid, even for all the money in the world.

Maybe not Cameron, and maybe not Rose but there could be a semi-sequel about the US Senate Inquiry shortly after the disaster. Sen. William Alden Smith was a pretty colorful character from what I have read and there was more than a bit of controversy in those hearings. Now all we have to do is figure out the actors for the various people involved and we would have a pretty good story!Regards, Peter

Well, how and WHY would they make a sequel is what I'd like to say. First of all, why make a sequel, because it would ruin the uniqueness of the original Titanic(1997). And, HOW could they make a sequel? While maintaining sense to it? If they made a sequel about Rose's life AFTER the Titanic sinking, then we couldn't call in "Titanic 2" could we? It would have nothing to do with Titanic. I think anyone would be crazy to make a sequel. Sure, there will be different movies called "Titanic" in the future, but not by the same producers in the intent of a sequel.

I like peter's idea about the inquiery thing. It was a big contreversy. It could work. you could have different witnesses from the ship come oward to share their wiews of what happened that night, and show flashbacks to the events. This way, you could still have a historically based movie, but with colorfull characters as well. Imagine having Molly Brown take the stand, or Bruce Ismay, Harold Bride, or Stoker Barret. Could have great potential.....

While a sequel could NEVER have the same effect as the original movie, you'd tend to think that it would have to have some sort of love story. Or at least you'd expect one. Rose's memories of Jack could not be enough, yet there could be nothing to equal or even match the love story carried through Titanic. I'd pay to see any sequel to Titanic but in the end it would be nothing short of a let down as it would be natural to want or expect passion. Peter's idea, the fine idea that it is, simply couldn't pass as a sequel.

It's possible to make a movie because there are plans to make a Titanic 2, yes the actual ship TITANIC 2!! Who would go on that, I'm trailing off.

True.
I loved the movie, "The Fast and the Furious" like with a burning passion. As soon as i saw "2 Fast 2 Furious"... my fascination with street racing life died, because it was killed in the sequel by a cliche story about a drug smuggler from Cuba. Only because it was cliche and the sequel bombed for me at least.
The only way I see for this to succeed is: 1)Less Publication (maybe a lower budget), which would not work for using the same actors because they are going to beg for millions. But noone wants to get their expectations up and then let them drop. 2)No clicheness. Something intricate would work, something like, say, "the butterfly effect" with an intricate stream of conciousness. 3)Perhaps another name besides Titanic 2? Maybe something completely different.. just simply relating directly with "Titanic" with possibly some of the same actors.
I'm a complete novice to the movie industry, but I applied what I've been seeing in my "Wild Goose Chase for the Titanic Sequel"... don't see a possibility yet, but the more I look, the more I see related "rumors"... maybe rumors.. maybe not.
Anyways, I'll keep checking back here
And again, as always, thank yall for ALL THE INFO! Ashley
:D

i hate it when they have really great movie and then they make a sequal years later. i hope they don't make a titanic 2 it would just spoil the first one and like you guys said it sunk and nearly all the main died. i also hate it when they do a sequal with ,like, none of the original characters. you know what i pretty much just hate sequals. unless it is in a three part adapted from a book or some-thing, exept for the matrix coz that was just awesome ok i'm guuna shut up now ;)

I think there should be a sequel that gives more about the backround of Jack and Rose...and maybe Rose could end up pregnant by Jack and her "daughter" could be theirs and it would tell all about that. I guess it could be interesting in a way.

No! i dont want a sequel! Titanics my favourite movie and a sequel will only ruin it.!
-- Justine (june_baby_90@hotmail.com), February 09, 2005.
yes i want to see titanic 2 :D
-- Kelly (sweet24j-cee@yahoo.com), February 15, 2005.
Why the hell do you want to see a titanic 2. There is no way they could make one unless they made a prequel but it would be a pretty crap story line because nothing really happened before the ship sunk. Plus their would be none of the same characters and like i said before i bloody hate that! :)
