What is the price of a Maine Coon

Kirby -

You don't say where you are located, but I'm in Northern California, and I paid 500 for mine. They had each had all their shots, their parents were screened for Hip Dysplasia and HCM, and in addition to their CFA registration papers, I got a written contract that if there were any genetic disorder, I would receive a replacment kitten. I also had 48 hours to have the kitten checked out by a Vet, and could return it if there was any problem.

There were kittens available for less, but without the guarantees. If price is a problem, I suggest you look at adopting an older cat, or a "Maine Coon 'look-alike'" from a shelter rather than trying to get a 'bargian' kitten. It takes a lot of time (and money) to raise a litter of kittens right, and if the price is too low, I'd wonder .

After I got my kittens, I tried showing them, and now both are "CFA Grand Premiers", which just means they fit the standard of the breed well. If you'd like to see them, here they are - Milo is a brown Mackeral tabby - http://www.wenet.net/~polomski/Cats/Cat_Pix/Milo-6a.jpg and TC is a blue Classic tabby http://www.wenet.net/~polomski/Cats/Cat_Pix/TC-6.jpg

I think it was worth doing my home work, and getting the best.

Good luck finding a cat.

Kirby,

I too am from NoCal., and have had Lacey for 6 months now. (she's 9 months old.) I searched for about one year to find a kitten that I not only liked, but felt good about it's price. After running the gamut on pricing up to $1,000, I found one that, while papered, is not show quality for $200. She has verified championship lines, was checked for cardyomy. & displasia, and has the best personality of any cat we've ever seen.

I'd suggest bargining with the breeders. While some will do their best to convince you that you are not worthy of their kittens if you are not willing to give them what they want, there are bargains that do exist if you are not afraid to ask.

Good Luck.

I live in Central Indiana and paid $300.00 for my MC. He came with papers and his father was a champion. Sometimes you can get a retired MC for just the cost of spaying or neutering. I haven't found an MC for less then $300 but up to $500.00. They are wonderful cats, active with personalities unique to their breed. I get exasperated with him, but still love him to pieces. Get one you bond with!

I'm from New Hampshire and my husband and I recently purchased a MC kitten for $450.00. If we wanted to breed it would have been $850.00. THey are wonderful pets. We also have two other cats, one we think is Maine Coon, the other just a short hair domestic. I would never buy any other breed now.

Well, I live in South Africa, where up until fairly recently the Maine Coon Hasn't been available, but... Now they are. All with full pedigrees and papers etc etc. Average Price about 800.00 Rand. Rands are converted to US$ at about 6.3 to 1, so our kitties are $130.00. Believe me, they are beauties. I have never had another cat as smart or as beautifull as my Tubby. He is the coolest cat on the planet.

Andy.
