My Maine Coon loves to eat plastic (bags etc). At first I thought he was just chewing on it, but now I know he is definietly eating it. I try to keep it away from him as much as possible but if there's anything lying out he'll find it. I've had other non-Maine Coons before and they never did anything like this. Is this a Maine Coon trait, or maybe just some cats eat weird things?

That is not a specific Maine Coon trait. None of my Maines have ever been plastic eaters but I have had other cats who were. Please be extra careful about balloons. Cost a lot of money once to have surgery done on a cat who had eatan a balloon!!

Our Maine Coon is almost 1 yr. - she eats anything and everyting in sight. Pot Pourrie (sp?) - dried flowers - magazines - house plants - anything she can chase, pick up or get to. We have put up and closed off as much as possible. I hope some of this calms down as she matures! We love her & she is a great cat - wouldn' t have her any other way. We just have to adjust to our cat - she pretty much runs the house!

My MC chews on plastic like Gladwrap to annoy me...he knows that I scold him for it. I'm sure that he has actually taken bites and swallowed tiny pieces. I am careful to keep plastic our of his way!

I have had cat companions for 30 years and my female MC cat (1 1/2 yrs. old) is the first feline to constantly be chewing on plastic bags. I have a question. Is it allright for a cat to want to eat every 5 min. My MC rubs on my leg untill I give her more food. Sometimes I will ignor her but she is too smart she'll turn on the sink or wait until someone opens the refrigerator and grab something then.

My Maine Coon type loves to lick plastic bags also- but with him it does not seem related to stress- in fact, this cat never seems stressed at all! He has the sunniest disposition of any cat I've ever known. Anyway, I'm going to get one of those kitty grass plants for him to eat- maybe he's just craving that type of texture.
