We were told that the older they are the better unless they started spraying. Our male sprayed at seven months so we took him in for neutering. I would definitely suggest neutering before he starts spraying if at all possible. Male cat spray is virtually impossible to get out of rugs, furniture, etc. We have spent a lot of money trying to remove the smell from our carpets, couches and chairs. There are a lot of commercial products out that claim to get rid of the smell. I've tried most of them. A professional cleaner "tried" to get the smell out of a chair. They did a pretty good job but I can still get an odor from time to time. If he's six months and hasn't sprayed, I'd get him neutered right away. Of course, neutering is no guarantee he won't spray but so far out kitty hasn't sprayed anymore. Good luck

The vet knows when your cat is "ready". My female cat began screaming at five mounths old. And my other MC at 12 mounths.

The sooner you spay / neuter your cat, the better. Many welfare organisations in the US neuters / spays at 6 weeks. Many breeders sell their kittens spayed / neutered at 12 weeks. Research proofs quicker recovery and rumours about urinary tract development problems and slowed development has not been proofed.
