Steve (and anyone else who is listening),

Has anyone handled the new P67II yet? Any first impressions? I dont frequent the Pentax site, so if there is some (subjective) info there from independents, please direct me. I am in a quandry (still) over whether to invest in the Nikon F5 or the P67II. Lots of things to sway me either way, as they are extremely disparate machines. I am still about a year away from taking the plunge, so I can wallow in indecision for a while. Feel free to delete this if too rambling and/or not specific nough to the forum.

I have answered my own question. I will save up for the P67II with the AE finder. Looks like the combo will be around $2200 initially. Hopefully the price will drop some by next fall/winter. Other than the slow synch speed, the new body and finder have fulfilled all my wishes. It even has the holder on the back for the film box flap!! (little things are important to me too). I may wind up selling some of the Nikon glass I just bought this summer to get the Pentax glass I want. Such is life.

Hi Jim,

I assume that if you are hesitating between F5 & P67, you are a serious amateur. With the F5, you have one of the best SLR in the world ... and very good is the F5 ... still, it uses 24x36 mm film. You will have the pleasure to have the best camera of the world, but comes the time when you look at your pictures ... the 6x7 negative will outperform your 24x36 negs. I have seen 6x7 slides ... wow!! I don't how to describe this. Try to ask someone to show you this difference. They just make me eager to get into Medium format.

My point is for the amount of money that you will pay for an F5, you will get more for your money (in term of quality of image) with the P67. You can get in 35 mm format for 500 bucks if you need the use of 35mm SLR.
