Can you get proffesionals results shooting photos with XL-1, using either photo mode or Frame movie mode?

Well that depends on your standards for proffesional results. DV can't offer the high "resolution" or contrast ratios that film does. But, you can get some mighty nice pictures with the XL1. I'd recommend you shoot in frame mode for stills.
