Can anyone tell me if there are any lists of any preserved C of GA equipment; either in muesums or still in reveue service.

I have a Video by Green Frog showing NS Yard operations in Atlanta. The two SD9's shown in the video are numbered 52 and 55. If anyone ever does find out where number 58 and 59 has ended up at, let me know. It sure would be a treat to see one of them in NS paint working the local here in Newnan on the old C-Line.

I love a good challenge and giving me an excuse to peruse my old magazines is never something I need much encouragement against! :-) Allen, you are correct about the SD-7. I was confusing this unit with the 6 SD-9s that CofGA owned. From an article in Diesel Era dated March/April 1991, NS has currently (at that time) shopped two former CofGA units into their SD-9M program. These units were former CofGA 202 and 207, numbered after rebuilding as NS 58 and 59. The article noted the units were yet to be rebuild, but scheduled for late 1991 and early 1992. I am sure one actually made it to Atlanta, only to be bumped to Sheffield, AL. These units has their MU removed and work as trimmer locomotives on the hump. I cannot say if they are still around. My last sighting was almost three years ago. If anyone knows their final disposition, I would love to know. With the sale-off of many SWs and GP-40/SD-40s a few years back, they may have already left the roster as SD-40-2s were bumped down to local and yard service.

I don't believe that the two SD7s that you referred to are former CofGa. The Central only owned 1 SD7 (no. 201) and it is (or at least was) on display at the Roanoke Transportation Museum. Of the Central's SD9s, four (203-206) were recently being operated by the Algiers, Winslow, & Western Railroad in Indiana. I believe that the SD9s that NS uses at Atlanta (and possibly other locations) are not former CofGa, although I would welcome documentation that would contradict my information.

I occasionally see fully lettered CofGA bulkhead flats going through Columbus Yard in Columbus, GA. Also, the AGLF in Albany, GA has several former CofGA woodchip cars with the CofGA makings still legible, though worn. Macon has a CofGA steamer on display in it park. Two former CofGA SD-7s have been rebuilt and are used as trimmers on the Sheffield, AL hump yard.

THE RIGHT WAY, the newsletter of the Central of Georgia Railway Historical Society, has carried several listings of existing CofG equipment. There are a number of steam locomotives, several diesels, a large group of passenger cars, and a few freight cars. Most of this equipment is in museums, however, there are several freight cars and diesels still in revenue service. Currently, the list totals about 55 pieces of equipment preserved.
