Jody I did a bunch of research myself recently on purchasing a digital camera. I ended up choosing the Kodak DC260 for it's superior resolution (1536 x 1024 pixels). I bought it for $750 at outpost.com. I could'nt be happier with this camera. One thing you might want to figure in on the cost is purchasing a flashcard reader to download your photos to your computer. The camera alone takes way to long. Good luck. Mark Z.

Actually, perhaps the best thing about the DC260 is the USB connection - I find that you can do without a card reader if you have Win 98 and a PC with USB, since USB direct from the camera takes about the same amount of time - it takes less than 2 minutes to download a full 8 MB card, and no more than 15 minutes to download a full 48 MB card

I would wait buying a digital camera until the 2.1 megapixel Nikon 950 Coolpix is in the USA. Check out the specs for it. I talked to a fellow who has a pre production model and he says the camera is awesome!! I for one am waiting to buy one. Tom

In response to the person who indicated that it might best to wait for the new Nikon 950, i can only say that there will always be something better coming along. It's only a matter of how long you would like to wait. I bought the 900s Nikon around Christmas. Its resolution is startling. Everything about this camera is simply excellent. The prints i get utilizing the epson 700 photo and upgraded paper are absolutely photo quality. the only drawback is its speed. not too great for action photography. portraits though, topnotch.
