Why the Nikon SB-28 is cheaper than SB-26?

Is the Nikon SB-28 a up-graded or down-graded version of SB-26? Why the price of SB-28 is lower than that of SB-26 (in Hong Kong)? I am just a beginner in photography. Would anyone tell me the major differences between SB-28, 26 and 25? Thank you very much. Dennis

The SB-28 doesn't have the SB-26's built-in, non-ttl slave trigger and does not have a switch to allow the selection of rear sync on camera bodies that don't have this selector (F4, N8008, N8008s). It's smaller, lighter and has easier-to-operate controls while providing the same output and coverage as the SB-26. If you want to use multiple SB-28s in wireless TTL, the SU-4 slave (about $70 in the US) is far more useful than the one in the SB-26.

In answer to your question, I feel that the price of the SB26 is somewhat inflated do to public opinion. Each flash have their advantages but the SB26 was such an innovation when it was released that it deservedly received many fans. When new equipment is released, we naturally wish to defend our choice to stick with the old, especially if the old is as good as the new product. I believe that those defending their choice to stick with the SB26 have been so vocal that they've immortalized this unit. The law of supply and demand therefore applies. Much like the Nikon F-3.

I know its been asked along time ago but I must say that when Iwent to the store and looke into the 28 closely, I could not belive that it was Nikon made,I have an SB25 and its very good although tends to over expose when you get alittle distracted. alot as been said about the tech of sb28, but the build quality??? come on I had a Nissin Flash better built that that! that why I think its cheaper, diferent materials less than "attent" al around finish.

Hi Dennis, I am a professional photographer and have constantly upgraded my equipment over the years. I have used every Nikon flash since the SB-24. I do not agree with the guy who says that Nikon quality has deteriorated over the years. Nikon has always remained consistent with their quality, if not improving it over the years. The SB-28 is just as good as the SB-26, only in a smaller, lighter package. Jose F.Fernes.
