WHAT IS THE BEST FOR A GENERAL USE ? (creativity, sharpness, easy to use, best quality..)

For creativity, sharpness and best quality, Canon PowerShot Pro 70 is hard to beat. For ease of use, well, probably Nikon will win. Overall as you use the camera, you will appreciate some of the professional functions of the camera. The Canon Pro 70 is a professional product at semi-professional price. I do recommend the Canon over Nikon. I do have Nikon Coolpix & I can't wait to get the Canon Pro70.

I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL CAMERAS...PRO70 IS THE HARDEST TO SET UP A GOOD SHOT WITH BUT WHEN YOU DO IT PRODUCES THE BEST SHOTS

I have studied the question for a long time and looked at a lot of pictures on the net . I am very immpressed by the fresh and crisp colors of the Pro 70 and a kind of inner clarity that is not common. The little flaw is perhaps that brightly lit white surfaces seems tend to be a little washed out( see lower right corner of the Davebox test image on this site). The prototype CP 950 do not impress in this way, and has been marred by i slight yellow-brown cast in some instances, but generally is confident and relaxed in its presentation , like it would say : I simply do not need that Canonic or Olympic brillianse . Anyhow, here is the MAIN reason why I have decided in favor of the CP 950: First: It has a superior macro. With this kind of closeness and resolution you will find fascinating motives absolutely everywhere, even in a prison cell. I speak with some experience, since I have had incredibly much fun with my cute little Ricoh 300 which focuses right down down to 1 cm(!). In addition , the format of the camera with its rotable lense seems to me ideal for creative experiments. Second : The proportion of the pictures is the same as the screen. I like my flat LCD screen to be filled COMPLETELY with the picture, for estethical reasons.(I mainly use the screen for viewing). With the elongated pictures of Canon ( and others), I would have to cut portions of it .Very tiresome procedure in the long run.And I would loose some resolution, too . By the way, the smallest letters on the the Davebox testimage is clearly more readable with the Nikon My choise is clear. But I suspect that both of this cameras would make me happy. Very Happy.

I have been trying to decide between these 2 cameras for quite some time now as well and have finally decided on the Nikon. I got the oppportunity to try the Canon at a local retail store and I noticed right off that it seemed to have a little more trouble on pics with a large amount of black and white in them. One of the pics the salesman took in the store was of a black cabinet against a green carpet, but in the pic the carpet was pure white and washed out. Might have been the salesmans fault but he really seemed to know what he was doing with the camera. Also the Zoom on the Canon just doesn't cut it for me. I have been using a Nikon 35mm in the past and I always liked to use the 70-210mm lens and although the 950 is still just over half that without using the digital zoom it's still more than half again as much as the Canon. I would like to add though that the Salesman took a shot of me that absolutely blew my socks off and I hope the Nikon is that good and hopefully more consistent. From what I have seen so far on the net, I think it will be. Mines on order and my fingers are crossed. CAN'T WAIT
