Maine Coon Opens Doorsgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Maine Coon Cats : One Thread |
We have a Mainecoon kitty named Marcel who is 18 months old. He cries at the door leading to our garage when I'm in the kitchen and if I don't stop what I'm doing to pick him up and walk him out to the garage to "check things out," he jumps up the door cupping his paws and after several tries he opens the door and walks through. He did this one night before we went to bed without our knowing and then strolled upstairs (after taking a leisurely stroll in the garage)all cold - too bad we can't teach him to close the door! He also jumps up our doorways and turns lights on and off! He's always up to something - makes us laugh all the time.He really seems as if he knows exactly what he's doing.... whether it be doors, lights, or whatever! I'm really impressed with him and tell him that all the time!
Thanks, Sandy Miller

My Sylvester does what your Marcel (Marceau?) does--open doors, only he does it to attain an end--to get outside! I actually saw him jump on the sliding glass door, unlock the lock, nudge the door open with his paws, and proceed to exit the building, much to my amazement. My Maine Coon type, a 18-lb. tuxedo neuter, is too smart for me to be able to cat-proof the house normally (whatever that is). He also opens the door to the pantry where I keep his food, so when he's hungry, he simply helps himself.

I have a mc that also opens doors windows and anything else he wants opened or locked. Thats right he even locks himself in the bathroom! J.D. short for the juvenile delinquent, walked into the bathroom one morning shut the door and then locked it thankfully we were home when he did this we ended up taking the lock off to prevent further "lock- ins"!
