For image quality and quality of prints, Sony mavicas are perpetually at the bottom of the heap. Lots of people like it for features and sony brandname, however. The D700 wouldn't have these problems, and people like the manual control. The Nikon 900 is discontinued, I bet the 950 will be great. The canon P70 is super, check out photo.askey.net for info on that.

If you are after image quality go for the Nikon or Canon. Really. I own a Sony - I love it - but I don't use it for image quality. For top quality I use my Nikon F3, 8 Lenses and a Photosmart scanner. For fun I use my Sony. No baloney. sorry. The biggest difference is that Nikon and Canon make CAMERAS. Sony makes computer imaging toys. This results in obvious differences like a Flash-Sync connector on the Nikon and Canon Cameras for GOOD flash attachments, better quality lenses and better exposure sensors. But - the Sony (91) has a steady shot, does MPEG movies, records sound and is generally a pretty cool camera to have around. Pick your toys - unless you're rich - then just buy one of each... I do like the floppy disk on the Sony. Wish they had the sense to put a Zip, or Super drive on the thing!
