I have an adorable Maine Coon type (found at a wonderful no-kill shelter) who has so many silly, cute personality quirks. For example, after he uses the litter box, he has a little spastic episode in which he lays flat on the carpet and scoots along with his paws going forward and to the sides, exactly as if he were swimming. Or sometimes instead of that, he will attack one of his toys. He loves to lie on his side, curled around a laundry basket, and then he'll spin it around with his paws. I'm just wondering why he has these energy bursts after going to the bathroom- any ideas? I'm curious.

MC's seem to have their own little rituals when using the box. My MC type ALWAYS uses the box after eating and when he gets out he runs to the bathroom to lie in the tub. It's odd.

I also have cats that do this, have read that it is instinctual to run away from an area after defecating - which leaves their disctincive scent. Keeps predators off their trail.
