I'm outta here!greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread |
Flying out tomorrow morning at 6:55am bound for New Hampshire! The long awaited weekend is finally here, and I think I'm prepared. Wish me luck guys! (not that I'll need it. heh heh) It's too bad most of you guys couldn't attend this event. The 1999 Twin Galaxies Video Game and Pinball Tournement will be the biggest of it's kind in 15 years! I think alot of marpers underestimated how big this thing is really going to be. It shouldn't be the money factor, becuase I had 2 months to prepare and a round trip ticket for $175 from Fort Lauderdale is pretty darn good! 4 guys in one big cottage, we'll split it up and pay close to nothing for it for 3 days. Anway, there will be many more in the near future. Walters organizing tons of events back to back over the next 6 months! Maybe in the near future, I'll get to meet some of my comrads of video game playing! Allthough I'm looking foward to meeting many world champs on some of the hottest classics to date. I'll list them below for the curious. I'll keep everyone informed of the whole event as soon as I get back and within a week or so the TG page will have everything about the outcome of the weekend as well as all the scores on the 110+ classic games they have. So be easy on my guys cause I'll be away from marp for a week, but restasured when I come back, I'll be using my brand new arkanoid controller so watch out German Krol! :)Regards, Steve Krogman
** Golden Age Players officially attending the tournement **
"World Record Champs"
1) Perry Rodgers: (Mario Bros., The End, Galaxian) 2) Mark Longridge: (Wizard of War, Punchout, Blockout) 3) Billy Mitchell: (Centipede, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr.) 4) Jason Wilson: (R-Type, Double Dragon, just too many to mention) 5) Star Wars Champ: (Star Wars) 6) Me!: (Galaga, Tetris, Arkanoid, Dr. Mario, Magical Drop 2, Buster Bros. Bust a Move 2, and many others)
These are the top dogs (world champions - 1st place scores) they all have many 2nd and 3rd place scores as well. Mentionable players through TG will probably reach around 30 and 100's of non mentionable (out-of-the-closet) players will get recognized by TG and the players as new world champs.

Welp, were it not for the exhorbitan $2000 - $3000 for a return trip from NZ I would have been there. I definitely would have no problems paying $175 to be there (well, make that more like NZ$300 but I'd still have been happy with that) !!!!Enjoy the tournament and I'll be sure to play Bomb Jack plenty this weekend and see if I can't finally post a decent recording using TG settings. ;-)

Good luck, Steve and kick some ass for us fellow MARPers while you're out there! We will hopefully cross paths someday when TG heads out west (USA, that is)...until then, there is always the Classic Gaming Expo this summer here in my backyard (Las Vegas).JoustGod
