Let's get together & take some pictures!greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo: Creativity, Etc. : One Thread |
After putting together this issue with its focus on Garry Winogrand, I've been thinking a lot about how our class hit the streets with GW and how we all connected with each other while being involved in that intense learning experience, and thought what the heck, maybe there's a way of sharing that magic. Sooo...I'd like to try something that might--just might--bring our little online communtiy a little closer.
I'd like to organize an informal outing in NYC sometime this spring or early summer for anyone who is interested, for the purpose of roaming the streets and taking pictures of anything that strikes your fancy, and perhaps learning something from each other.
I haven't forumulated any of the details--I guess that will depend on the kind of response this gets. But if anyone is in NYC or plans to visit soon please respond here and let's see if we can plan something where we can meet face to face!
Anybody interested?
BTW I have definite plans to be in NYC on June 23...perhaps we could do a lunch hour or rush hour get-together?

PS....if you aren't going to be in NYC but want to get together with other nearby B&W Worlders, feel free to use this thread to organize local gatherings!

Wonderful idea Mason. It would be impossible for me to make it but I wish you the best of luck and hope you get a good response. I photograph with a couple other photographers on a regular basis on the streets and when we all get into a 'zone' there is incredible energy and creativity. It's surprising how well it works in a group situation.

Excellent idea. There's no chance of me making it to NYC, but if anyone fancies trying this out somewhere in the UK, say a weekend day in London, reply to this or drop me an e-mail.

Upon Mason's suggestion I would also like to extend an invitation to anyone in the Vancouver BC area to join an existing group in some good, old-fashioned street shooting. All levels welcome, just send me a message. Also I would like to organize a shoot in Seattle WA so if there is anyone down there who would like to meet some like-minded photographers from Vancouver and guide us through your great city please contact me. Thanks.

Does my gun permit from Oklahoma work in NYC? Will I need a machete? I'll meet you that friday evening at Scores Mason, I'll be the guy in the oshkoshes and no shirt with chipped teeth. Oh that's not appropriate dress, I'll wear a dickie too or maybe just a dickie, boxer shorts and boots. I can't wait! See you there!ps. Yippeee I'm so excited. What's bail like in NYC for mayhem charges?

You forgot to mention a camera. That would probably be quite handy.

Whose got time for photos when you're in New York?
-- Trib (linhof6@hotmail.com), May 07, 1999.
I'm going to New Mexico and Colorado in June or July for a weeks shoot of the landscape or anything else that shouts at me. Anyone interested in meeting somewhere along the way? Let me know. I'll be in Santa Fe and Taos then to the real american ruins, ect. It'll be fun. James

How about some shooting in San Francisco or the wine country? I live between the two. I haven't had much luck connecting with other B&W photographers here.Chris

I'll never make it up there, but good luck, sounds like fun, I'm sorta gettin' into takin' pics of things that ain't gonna be here much longer ( barns, depots, countrysides, etc.,) it's sad but progress just keeps on coming. Blue

I'll put my idea in as well. I am 3 hours from New Orleans and it's a great place for street shooting. I go there quite often but always by myself. No friends with the same interest. Anytime you guys want to get together for a trip, let me know. It's a crazy place with no end of material for shots, especially during Mardi Gras!!!!!!!!Take care............

I must be lucky. We have a group of almost 20 B&W photographers here in the Research Triangle Park, NC area that get together at least once-a-month to look at each others prints and discuss technique. We've had several field trips too!!Anyone in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area reading this, e-mail me and I'll give you the details!

Mason,I'm game, my fav area is 9th Ave from 34th to 57th st. I guess I favor the local grit and besides that gives me a good excuse to swing into B&H. Actually the 23rd doesn't quite work for me, to fund my photog addiction I'm working a double that day. If you decide on a different date, let me know.

Hey, Andy, I'm in Seattle! I wouldn't mind at all popping up to BC or giving you a strolling tour down here. I'll admit that street photography isn't my forte, but what the hey! I wish the battleships were still open. The crowds were quite interesting.
