2,5*2,5slide to photoshop to slide to 48*48inchgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread |
I'm working on an exhibition of 8 pictures. 4 of them will be edited in photoshop. I start from a Hasselblad slide (6*6cm) and I will have it scanned in a labo, then work on it. then I'd like to put it back on slide in the lab and then print it(enlarge) it to 48*48inch or 1,20m*1,20m. Because this gives the best colours and stays very long, I'd like to print the edited slide on Cybachrome(professional quality). My Questions: Is it possible? Wich resolution do I need ? Already heard from this kind of work? thank you very much in advance Wim Forceville(Belgium) e-mail:wim.forceville@pandora.be

Wim, If possible have the transparency scanned on a drum scanner for the highest quality output. Do your manipulations in photoshop. Here is where the options change, and I'm not sure what sort of options you have available in your area. If there is a lab near you with a Durst Lambda, or a Cymbolic Science Lightjet 5000 they will be able to output directly from the digital file onto paper or film. I'm not aware of anyone offering this in Cibachrome, but the Kodak Duraflex is a beautiful glossy product. So far as resolution required is concerned, it's best to talk to whoever provides the service to determine what they want. High end scans are not cheap, and you must keep in mind that that sampling up an image is usually a waste of both time and file space. I have a friend in Atlanta, Ga., USA who does most processing now, but he got his start in Cibachrome and he has both the Durst Lambda and the LightJet(I think). Contact him at http://www.colorchrome.com (I think that is the correct link--If you cannot get there e-mail me and I will supply you with the correct link). Anyway, you should be able to get great results for what you want to do. good luckfred

Fred, Thank you for the information you gave. Now I'm gonna check out the machines you suggested in my neighbourhood(Ghent,Belgium). The site of colorchrome was very clarifying(not only the prices!). I should find a buro like them in Belgium, because they integrate the whole process. I'll send a invitation for the opening(jan.2000) of the exhibition ciao
