How And or Why does Joseph the Carpenter Influence family life.greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread |
Does Joseph have any manner of directing us in modern day and age as family members? What does he offer to men? What does he offer to women? Is he important at all in Christian living?

I've always considered Joseph's legacy to be one of critical import to men of God. I often wonder about his initial reaction when he discovered that Mary was pregnant. Does anyone know what would normally have happened in that culture if a man discovered that the woman he was engaged to got pregnant by someone else? I am sure it was extremely difficult for Joseph to accept and obey God's will in the face of what had to be humiliating public ridicule. I admire that he buried his personal pride (ego) to obey God, an example for men (who are so frequently driven by pride) of all ages.

As to what would ave happened to Mary had Joseph not taken her is simple for tradition then called for stoning. To-day we say it in a more " civilized " amnner. She would have been termed sluttish and not worth a good man time. What is the difference as they both kill the spirit of a human being.Jean B.
