Jess, I have used the Sony Mavica FD-81, FD-91 & the CyberShot DSC-D700. I believe the difference between 81, 83, and 88 is the floppy drive access time. I really like the 14x zoom of FD-91 (otherwise it is the same product as FD-81). If you like the ease of floppy based data transfer, Sony Mavica line is the Digicam for you (I love this feature of FD-91 & FD-81), if you are looking for picture resolution at XGA level, you will be happy with specially FD-91. However there are many new products with a lot higher resolution than XGA on the market including Sony DSC-D700, Canon PowerShot Pro 70, Olympus C-2000, and a few more.

I recently (about a month and a half ago) bought a FD-81 Sony Mavica. I'm very happy with the results and simplicity of the camera, and very happy rith the floppy disc media feature. I can get about 7 1028x768 photo's with 5+ seconds of audio an a floppy and up to 63 sec. of video with audio(at low res.) on a floppy or 15 sec's of 320 x___ video and audio on a floppy. The results are commendable especially when viewed on a Hi res PC monitor or printed on my HP895Cse Printer. I realize it isn't 35mm Quality and resolution, but it is very easy to use, convienient to use and sufficient quality and flexibility for the money. Also, localy its price has been reduced about $200. from what I paid in a fairly short time. In short, I'm quite satisfied with it.
