Hi Trenton -I bathe my Maine coon kitty once every 1-2 months. I ususally use the bath tub and a large pitcher to assist with rinsing. If you can get a nozzle of some sort on a small hose, that would probably be better. Maybe your kitchen sink rinser nozzle would do.
The shampoo that I use is a very mild one meant for kittens or puppies.
Usually I will bring the cat into the bathroom, close all the doors, and get plenty of towels. Sometimes the kitty will get loose, but he cant go far and the towels keep the water situation controlled.
He doesn't like the water that much, but he loves getting dryed with the hair dryer. He just sits there and purrs for that.
One other suggestion - clip his nails first.
good luck

You did not say if your cat goes outdoors....if he does then he may get into situations when he needs bathing. For an indoor cat, even a semi-longhair like the MC, you may never need to bathe your cat. I have show cats which get bathed before shows but other MCs which never get bathed as they are strictly indoors cats and never get into anything which they can't take care of with their very efficient tongues! However, if you feel you need to bathe, the absolutely best and most comprehensive article on bathing cats (particularly MCs as she breeds and judges them) is at the website of Coonyham MCs (www.coonyham.com). Go to "show kittens" (I think) and scroll down page until you see the link on "grooming". Good luck!

I have the best bath tip. If you take alligator close pins (the ones with a spring between two pieces of wood) and pin your kitty along the area that mothers hold their kittens. This will trigger the cats natural responce not to move. I have found that this works for any unpleasurable deed that must be done, in the bath, getting brushed, or ear cleanings. It works wonders!!!!
