Canon A50 custom battery pack

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

The review of the Canon A50 states that it uses a custum NiMH battery pack that sells for $100 with a charger. Am I correct that I must buy this expensive battery pack from Canon and can not use standard NiMH AA batteries that sell for $25 to $35 with a charger?

That is true. The camera uses the 2CR5 6V Lithium battery and if you don't buy the rechargeable battery from Canon, you'll have to pay anywhere from $5-$12 for a battery which claim to last 500 shots with LCD off and 80 shots with LCD on. This is the main reason I change my order to Nikon Coolpix 700.

You have to buy its (CANON) battery package or lithium battery pack which sell for about $12 a pack. It last for 150 shots.
