Nikon 700: Getting images to PCgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread |
I just got a Nikon 700 after using the OLympus 220 for over a year. I've only taken a few shots and I'm sure the image quality is better. But how do I get them to the computer? Why isn't the Nikon TWAIN compliant? Or am I missing somethin? I use Adobe Photodeluxe for quick editing and Photoshop for extensive work. Getting the Oly images was a snap. Can't see why Nikon didn't provide the most basic of drivers. I installed Nikon View...so where on earth is it??? Not a good start I'm afraid. (And I picked this camera over the Toshiba PDR-M4) Anybody else?

I have the coolpix 950 myself but if I'm not mistaken, it's very similar to the 700 when it comes to image transferral. It actually uses the serial port when it comes to transferring the images. That's a relatively slow process and so as a result, instead of doing it that way, I bought an Compact Flash reader (which comes in both USB or parallel port versions) and you'd just plug the compact flash memory card in there and transfer the images. It's MUCH easier that way. The compact flash would appear as another floppy drive on your computer (sort of like a zip disk adding another drive letter). And your Nikon View icon is in the "my computer" section. I hope I helped you out. If you have more questions, feel free to email me. Good luck! It's a great camera! :)JT

It is very inconvenient that the Nikon View software appears in the "My Computer" foler. I recommend that this Nikon View should be in the "Programs" folder. And Nikon does not create any icon at all. I am suspecting that the software designers forgot about these problems. Imagine hundreds of software start to appear in the "My Computer" folder. Then, we have to sesarch both "My Computer" and "Programs" folders.Andy
