I love theatre. I'm a big geek about it, too. :] I'm not too far from New York, so I see a lot of stuff there, mostly for half price or $20 student rush, which is fun. I see touring shows in Hartford and Providence too, though not very often - I've seen maybe three touring productions. Plus, my local theatre (I live right off the University of Connecticut campus and so I get their shows and CT Rep) is fabulous in itself - since I've moved here, I've seen every show once...sometimes three times or so...I *told* you I was a geek!

The last show they had was Forever Plaid, which also happened to star a friend of a friend of mine. So we got to hang out with the cast a lot, which was fun. Coming up next here is Angels in America and Jesus Christ Superstar - but before that I'm seeing Fuddy Meers in New York with my Kids in the Hall crush boy Mark McKinney. This is shaping up to be a fabulous season...

oh, i saw the touring company of cabaret with teri hatcher and norbert leo butz two weeks ago in dc! wonderful production. hatcher can sing, which surprised the hell out of me, pleasantly. i saw a community theatre production of i do, i do which was amusing in a "bad musical" sort of way, and not worth more than the 7 bucks i paid for it.

there are some great theatre companies in baltimore, and even more in mpls. my college has great theatre, too! that's what i'm most excited about.

i'm doing props for a production of falsettos at the end of november, and producing a production (because isn't that what you produce, productions?) of terence mcnally's lips together, teeth apart and assorted other running crews and such. too over comitted but what can you do?

I love theatre but don't see it as much as I used to. *sigh* This weekend visited the Binghamton, NY, area for the first time since we moved from there to Rhode Island four years ago. I like Rhode Island but... The Cider Mill Playhouse in Endicott always put on first rate theatre year 'round. The Tri-Cities Opera was marvelous (think of them as AAA and the Met as major league, get to hear singers who will soon move up to the big leagues). Binghamton University had a very high calibre theatre program, great stuff, a full range from workshop performances to full scale productions. Now I live near U.R.I. and go to their productions... which are good but they just aren't in the same league as Binghamton University. Every summer there are a couple of good Shakepeare in the park productions in Westerly, R.I. and this summer there was Shakespeare in the park in Providence as well (but I never had time to get up there). I know that Broadway touring companies visit Providence and that there is a lot of local theatre in Providence, especially Trinity Rep... but my schedule never seems to have allow me to get there. Yes, yes, I know... the secret is to buy season tickets and then plan your schedule around the tickets. That's what we used to do in Binghamton, get season tickets and arrange babysitting when the kids were little or just get four season tickets when they got a bit bigger. (Some years I think my kids saw as many live productions as they did movies.)

I love the theatre, a whoooole lot. Go to plays whenever I get the chance. We get some tours in my town and in some places within a few hours of my town, so that way I've seen Tap Dogs, Stomp, Camelot, The King and I, Mark Twain Tonight, The Phantom of the Opera (with Brad Little), Man of La Mancha (with Robert Goulet), Fiddler on the Roof, and Smokey Joe's Cafe. All very good. Also we have a bunch of little theatre groups around here. I just finished a run of "The Children's Hour" and auditioned for "The Music Man" the day of closing night. Oh yeah and I love NYC but I've only been there once (I live in NC). I saw Jekyll & Hyde. I'm dying to see Fosse and Amadeus, and Jesus Christ Superstar when it opens.
