Can I use my Vivitar 636AF with my CP950?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread |
I have a Nikon CP950 on order and I have a Vivatar Auto Focus Illuminator (636AF) I used with my Nikon film camera. It's a beauty and I was wondering if I can use it with the CP950 or will I have to buy still another duplicate (almost) piece of equipment? Will I need a bracket or anything? Thanks, Bob.

Depends on the sync connector, I think. The CP950 uses a 3-pin sync connector, which I think provides feedback to the flash head to quench the flash when enough light's been received. No data transmitted on lens focal length though, so the AF function on the flash probably won't work. If you can get an adapter to the 3-pin Nikon sync plug, it'll probably work, minus the AF feature. Nikon sells a flash bracket for the camera intended to work with their strobes, give you a hot shoe, and includes a short cable to the sync connector. - May work with the Vivitar...
