I'm getting pretty desperate for some interesting new music... Anybody heard anything new that is worth picking up??? What about classic stuff that is must have??? To show how desperate i am, i actually thought about buying the new Creed to see what all the fuss is about.. Do i need help??

you need - The London Suede, Psychotica, Strangelove (who opened for Suede, yay!), The Smiths, and some Siouxie and the Banshees!
you need the old Psychotica though, with rica screaming in the background so fast you can't understand a word she says, and when you do figure one out you start jumping up and down and dancing and singing along, only you have no chance of keeping up because you aren't a tall swedish chick singing with the delectable pat briggs...
oh, to be rica.
i don't even know if that's how she spells it, it doesn't look very swedish to me.
oh well.
you also need jazz, lots and lots of jazz.
but i don't listen to particular artists, i just listen to compilations 'cause i'm a miserly little witch and don't like to spend tons of money on cds.

Check out Santana's new album - *Supernatural*.

Athenaeum has an absolutely incredible album which I believe (I can't see it from where I'm sitting) is just self-titled.

If you like the Grateful Dead (which I do now thanks to my Deadhead boyfriend), *Europe '72* is a great CD.

Fleetwood Mac's *The Dance* kicks ass, too.

And then, of course, there are my two all-time favorite CDs ...

Gotta be the new Mr. Bungle, "California." Has anyone ever come close to accurately describing this band? Well, this one seems to have started with a germ of surf music, warped beyond recognition by their usual avant garde sonic sensibilities. Beach Boys meet Praxis. Not something I could recommend to anyone I know, but when you ask for interesting new music... Well, this is definitely that, and it's really like nothing you've ever heard before. And if anyone thinks I'm wrong, then please recommend something else it sounds like, because I can't get enough.

Ooh! Ooh! That's one question that you do NOT want to ask around me, because I can go on, and on, and on. Right now I'm listening to the new Mr. T Experience CD, "Alcatraz". Very good. It's a lot poppier than their older stuff, but it's catchy as hell. Dr. Frank's solo CD ("Show Business Is My Life") is also really good. The new ASH CD is okay, but I'd buy "1977" first. The new Quasi CD ("Field Studies") is really good... uh, I'll just stop there.

i was just at the coachella festival in california, mainly to see underworld. i would recommend their first album dubnobasswithmyheadman and their latest, beaucoup fish. if you don't know who underworld is, you may perhaps recall the kickass tune at the end of trainspotting - called born slippy. they are "electronica" but i don't know if techno is the right word. their music is much more... lush. and the stream of consciousness vocals add a whole other dimension. the tunes dirty epic and cowgirl off of the first album are just unbelievable, jumbo, push it, and moaner off of the latest are... well, an epiphany waiting to happen.

also lamb - a current favorite - drum n' bass beats mixed with ethereal vocals and the lyrics drift from sensual to detached to romantic to sad. also esthero - very eceletic mix of sounds in their music. some jazzy rhythms some flamenco guitar some techno beats some r&b bass - wacky but delicious.

the new london suede (head music) is indeed fabulous. belle & sebastian, tigermilk; jeff buckley, grace; dealership, secret american living room; the posies, frosting on the beater; old 97's, the older one too far to care the newer one fight songs - both amazing; the verve story, which is a four cd collection of the verve jazz recordings from 1944 to present; beth orton, trailer park; tragically hip, phantom power; ween, chocolate and cheese; beck, mutations (it grows on you).

that's a mix of old and new...

My favorite cd right now is "February Son" by Oleander. I can't get enough of it. I'm also still listening to "Sunburn" by Fuel, two years after they released it.

i've been listening to portishead a lot lately, which is depressing and makes me in one of those revoltingly poetic moods. yech. it's good stuff, though. mmmmm, i wish i could sing like her.

to counteract the resulting depression, i listen to a band by the name of pain. (their mp3's happen to be on the same cd-r as my portishead mp3's.) it's happy punky poppy stuff with horns and really great lyrics. "everybody's got a parasite/ i've got you." heheh.

the usual- sonic youth, my bloody valentine, radiohead, red hot chili peppers, jane's addiction, pulp, the verve, hole, pavement, some local-ish bands, stuff from my parents' era that they didn't care for (silly folksies, didn't even listen to dylan), and whatever they play on npr - i refuse to listen to commercial radio anymore. the blues hour on sunday nights is my fave.

i don't know what you really would like.. it all depends on what you usually listen to and just how adventurous you are. check the pain site, tho', they've got some sound files. it's worth a shot.

did someone say music? now these little suggestions arent technically new , but more recent.

* gerling - children of the telepathic experience.brilliant , australian artists. This is getting a lot of play on radio here without any hurt to the album (unlike other stuff which gets played to death) a mix of sequencers and gutars , harmonies and sometimes brash vocals . think a rawer mogwai or tortoise experience , but not trans-am (who they supported though on their australian tour)=======actually listening to it right now. *the flaming lips - the soft bulletin. yes i know they appeared on 90210 but how long can you hold that against anyone person (except the cast!) and most people hate the 'she dont use jelly' song from the early nineties , but i think this album is totally fucking a grade. sounds and melodies that rival genre-brethren and friends mercury rev. It lets you just be taken by the vocals for a trip where nothing has to make sense anymore. *mercury rev - deserter songs. if not already , why not? *gomez - liquid skin. good feel-good , drinking &s moking with friends in the lazy sun kinda album (their first 'bring it on' is ace also) *pavement - terror twilight. been out for a while but still playing frequently inside my head and house. malkmus and co have not lost the ability to turn a strange phrase and bring the smile to the face on this , their most produced , yet loosest sounding offering.

oh , and how could i forget the new chemical brothers cd (but unfortunately the name eludes me). If you like some beats that dont drag on too long before changing this disc is good. some are calling it a tad psychadellic , but i dont think so , just changing the program a little to keep every one else on their toes...........and one must wait in anticipation of the new primal scream disc which is due out soon ( i hope !!!! )

You can also surf over to mp3.com and pick up some mp3s of Bomb32 and Dean Wolfe - the former a co-worker of mine at the school here and the latter a local artist in a similar vein to Prefab Sprout, Crowded House and Dream Academy.

Other jazz greats worth mentioning: Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, Bud Powell, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, and Billie Holiday.

The new Creed is even better than the first. Caroline's Spine just came out with their second one: Attention Please, which is good. I also enjoy Gravity Kills, Morphine, Radiohead, Nixon's, Candlebox, Stabbing Westward, Matthew Sweet, Offspring, Goo Goo Dolls... And, same as Alli-Oleander seems to keep finding itself back in my cd player. It came as a pleasant surprise that the new Our Lady Peace: Happiness Is A Fish You Can't Catch is very good.

i've heard mr. bungle before at my psychopathic friends' apartment once. it's like really demented circus music. anyway right now i'm listening to BIF NAKED!!! it's one of the best albums i've gotten in a long time. i also bought LONG BEACH DUB ALLSTARS (remnants of sublime) and that's pretty good too, not to mention the fact that they put on GREAT shows.. i saw them before the album came out, and they played a lot of sublime stuff, and what songs that were there's i really liked. it had a lot of reggae, some attempts at punk, and even one rap song. it's great.

Have you heard Chasing Furies yet? They are a new 2 sister, 1 brother team. They are really good. I am using one of their songs at my wedding. The brother wrote a really good P&W song on the album.

Glitterbeam... 'this beautiful mess' is an incredible album! slocum is a great song writer... (they are great in concert too! i saw them last year when i was in nashville.) i do like the new album, although i dont feel its as strong at the last... they are getting a bad rap with 'kiss me'... which is a great pop song, but its been overplayed... i think the next album should be interesting... i have heard chasing fluries, but wasnt overly impressed..maybe i'll have to give them a second listen.... for P&W stuff i'm a huge delirious fan! you should check them out if you havent.. and if you ever get a chance to see them live... GO! its an experience... :)

Check out the new album from Sevendust! It's called "Home". It's one of the best albums I have heard in a long time. It's like a cross between the band Living Colour and Godsmack. It's really heavy, but there's an element of funk in it.

Not like the hip/hop rock thing, but really heavy with a groove.

I recommend getting .mp3s from the Internet to check out songs from groups that you haven't heard before, so you can decide if you want to buy their album or not. After hearing several Filter songs, I've decided I'm going to buy their "Title of Record" CD next. Good stuff.
