Looking for information regarding feline urinary problems that main coons have. Can you help me on things that I can do to stop this.

We recently purchased a male shaded silver Maine Coon and on his first visit to the vet's for a general health check-up, he told us to start doing 2 things immediately. One was to start brushing his teeth at least 3 times a week (he gave us a finger brush and poultry flavored toothpaste)and the second was to get him off canned food to help prevent urinary infections. Below is a recipe that he gave us for a restricted mineral diet for cats.

1 lb. regular ground beef, cooked 1/4 lb. pork liver, cooked 1 cup cooked rice 1 tsp. corn oil 1 tsp. calcium carbonate

Combine all ingredients. Yld. 1 3/4 lbs.
