Uploading digital pictures onto the Internet with Prodigy.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I am interested in uploading pictures onto the Internet. I have recently joined Prodigy and am finding the process impossible. I find that I need to purchase a software program (WS_FTP, CUTE, Voyager, etc.), which I am willing to do. My problem, is that the instructions on each program that I have visited is so complicated that I cannot figure out how to use it. I have contacted Prodigy and recieved little help. I have also contacted the manufacturers, and can only get help via a complicated website. Any ideas on what to do next?

Mike, I'm not familiar with Prodigy, but the best FTP program I have found is WS_FTPpro from Ipswitch. You can go to their website- http://www.ipswitch.com-and download a free 30 day trial use. The program itself costs (I think) $37.50. I tried several programs and found this one to be the easiest and most intuitive to use. Good luck Fred

First, you don't really load pictures to the Internet, but you load them to a server on the Internet. The Server really dictates how you load the pictures. Prodigy provides web pages on their pages.prodigy.net site. Your site would probably be "pages.prodigy.net/MLC510" They do change things but I believe this is the current name convention. They have instructions to build web sites and load pictures one at a time. They also work with any FTP program including the one that came with windows...

Here is a sample session from a command window (MS-dos prompt): -------------- ftp pages.prodigy.net username: MLC510 password: "prodigy password"

put (name of file)

bye

----------- This may be a little too confusing since you are using comands to accomplish the upload. Their are several commands!

I use WS_FTP and once you set up your Prodigy user name and password, it is just as simple as selecting the files from the right pannel and clicking on upload. WS_FTP requires that you log into user local provider first, then bring up WS_FTP. It is amazing that you can have multiple programs using the com pipe that is established when you log into Prodigy.

There are many other places that will house photos and each of them have there own methods to upload. I provide a list of several of them on my website... "http://pages.prodigy.net/daveclark" under the digital photo link.

One of the nice features of using a vanilla site like Prodigy is you can link all of your sites into one ... with a little html.
