i dont declare any denomination...i just started reading the bible lately...some friends of mine that are catholic tell me about a catechesim?(dont know if this is spelled right)what is this?...is it another name for the bible or what?...and what do i have to do to join the catholic church....i suppose it is the right religeon , since there are more catholics that i know than any other denomination.

I could not answer your question as to why become a catholic because i do not believe in all of their docterines. I would though urge you to not base your beliefs on the majority but, rather on the sound docterine that is in the bible and match it to what a denomination teaches.

Hi Mark,

The Catechism is a summary of the teachings of Christ. We know that some of His teaching was recorded in the New Testament and part was handed down by Oral teaching for the 20 or so years before the writing of the New Testament was started. The Catechism leads your through this teaching. However if your look up all of the notes and Scripture passages. I can be very time consuming. I would suggest that you get one for reference along with your Bible. But also buy a guide book. Catholic and Christian by Alan Schreck or Why Do Catholics Do That? by Kevin Johnson or Handbook For Todays Catholic by Liguori publications. Any questions as you go can be posted here. You can also look into an RCIA program at a local Church.

to michael and br. rich thanks for your inputs, as i will look further into what you both have said....although i find it interesting that a non catholic answered here first....why is there so much fuss between certain denominations, we all read the same bible dont we, or are some different than others...its like, do you get points for getting someone to join your denomination? am i going to burn in hell if i choose the wrong one? and how do i know which one is the right one? searching for the right home,mark

Yes there are different Bibles some are missing some books and parts. Others are way off in their translation from the original Vulgate Latin that was translated from the original text that we no longer have any originals of. I agree with the other person you should read and study and make your own decision. The Holy Spirit will guide you if you seek the Truth. Christ very clearly shows us in the Scriptures how we are to indentfy His Church, the one and only established by Him to continue His ministry on earth with His power and guidance.

Actually we here printed out this site and reviewed and corrected all of the errors contained in it. We sent our corrections to the webmaster but received no response, maybe they are still researching it?

If I wanted to know how to become a surgeon would I seek the advice of a taxidermist?

Hi, I just want to say that it is not God's will to have us Christians fighting over being a Catholic or a Protestant. In the Bible it tell us that there is only one baptism and one unity in Christ. So why do we go against the teaching of the Bible? The Holy Bible is a very very thick book, and it contain many many teachings. There is no way that we will all agree with every one of the teaching. Each one of us will have a different view on it. But what is important is that we understand the Grace of our Lord Jesus. It is through his grace that we are saved. So therefore let not man fight among themselves on who has better understanding of God's salvation. God will not overlook thse little differences. It is only important that we place God first in our heart. Now this is the core of Chrisitianity. Let us all live in peace. The Devil will do his best to break us Christians apart by pride. Let's not let that happen. May the Lord be with all of us, and bless us all of our days.

So much of what you say is true. No one has a mission to ''improve'' another man's religion or faith. If Our Lord wishes to convert that man, He will work it out. We DO have a duty to make Catholic doctrine clear. No other Christian doctrine is from Christ and the Apostles. Reading a Bible is a personal experience, and subjective to our personal misunderstanding. The Devil can quote from Scripture.

We as Catholics must set the best example. When we see the news articles today-- our priests accused of molesting boys; etc., it breaks a good Catholic's heart. Nevertheless; all Catholics are certain in the faith given us from the holy apostles. There is no other Church. It is we who are responsible for it, in the world's eyes. We believe the Holy Spirit is with us. He is the One that calls out to converts. He makes us Catholics, not the Bible, not preaching or arguments. Mark is welcome to take what the Church has to offer him. We think he needs the Church, because we believe it is the only true Church. There he's sure to find Our Lord.
