I don't think the area shown is big enough to show the route choice all the way to the right in the field.

Dan is right -- the map does cut off the route that goes through the fields. The fields on the right edge of the part of the map that is shown are, in fact, one big field. The route I took between one and two was to follow the trail due east from the marker and to the field. Then I ran through the field and dropped down the reentrant to the control. I think this is probably a bit faster than taking the trail. I did not take splits on this leg.

I think I found a route between the greens north of the control, crossed the trail where the white meets the light green, went down and up crossing the reentrant bottoms along the border of white and green (I really wasn't looking for the borders, but they pretty much match my route), caught the trail and ran it until being able to see the control.Another variation would have been to go a bit northwest from the control and catch the trail, then follow the trail until the point of cutting through the reentrant. The woods in the reentrant were quite nice and quick running.

I ran east along the trail from 1 until it turned NE, then ran north along the edge of the field and down through the woods towards the trail. I took the trail to number 2, although felt quite uneasy when the trail climbed about 1.5 countours before the downhill section leading to the control. It looked like the trail climbed more than 4-5 meters and I didn't feel comfortable until I was running downhill again and had looked carefully at the map.

I ran on the trails again, starting out *west* out of the control. No way was I going to try to shortcut through Kansas fight. No doubt the router choice to the right (through the fields) was better. But I got more mud going the way I did!
