I am wanting to take pictures of my childrens sporting events and was wondering about the time delay from the time I push the button until the actual shutter operates. Excuse my ignorance but I can't remember the term for that!! Thanks

Shutter delay, etc. Most cameras have more problem with delay from the autofocus, not the shutter trip. OTOH, there is a time between shots that could impact sports shooting. It varies with the camera. You usually can't rip shots off like a 35 with any kind of autowind or even a fast thumb.
