Resolution vs. print size vs. compression. HELP??greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread |
I'm trying to make the move to digital and am still confused.1) Would print size dictate resolution? If I just want snap shots, would certai resoultions be overkill? What should I choose?
2) Likewise for compression: Can I get by with more compression if I'm just printing snap shots?
Many thanks for help. Lewis

A 1000x800 resolution would probably be ok for most people. But if you shell out $300-$500 for a middle of the road camera, what happens when you want to do something a little different. Since the entry level camera is so expensive today, it is really a tough decision.
If you plan to take a 100 pic a year, you problem should pic up a point and shoot film camera. But if you want to 1000 pic a year and try a lot of different things, then maybe a camera that does more is really a better buy. Those 11x18 photos I have on the wall are really nice! They only cost about $300 each!
