by the way - my full name is not to be revealed....i go by doug ------ period funny you should ask - - i still have most all of my treasured keepsakes and heirlooms - even though i passed them on to my kids quite some time ago, so my keepsakes and greatest treasures are together. i do have some treasured photos though, my youngest daughter nursing her first born before coming home from the hospital.......another photo of my middle daughter when she six years old or so, on crutches. she had perthe's disease - - which runs for a short time, but destroys the white covering on the top of the leg bone, thats all it does. she was on crutches for a long, long time, and that leg was held from shin to opposite shoulder in a bent knee position in the doctor's attempt to immobilize that leg as much as possible - - - - the negative was destroyed in a fire in a trash barrel so i have the only copy priceless ! other photos of people and places i have a desire to look at and make my memory lane pictoral. by passing along the mementos myself - each of my progeny received what i thought fitting to them. each received family heirlooms and each treasured items. most of the kids have copies of the photos other than the ones which only remind me of the events and places that they don't know. and books - - - amongst those passed on were, a childs garden of verses, by robert louis stevenson and other old and treasured books and were passed on to the youngest daughter because she and her husband are the thoughtful, bookish types - - - who are raising their children to be likewise for the joy of reading. my reference type books are with me - - but i don't consider them keepsakes. the other books i pass along to an assisted living place. i guess the only other things which could be classified as keepsakes are the old clothes, sweaters and jackets which i hang onto for dear life....the wife is constantly refusing to go anywhere with me unless i change out of them........... fun to go down path of memories. doug

I am pretty sentimental. I have kept everything from my former step-kids. Every picture they drew me, every card they ever gave me, little marbles, stuffed animals, cheap costume jewelry they gave me for Mother's Day.

I also have a hat from my deceased Grandpa, and a beautiful coin purse from my decease great-grandmother.

I also keep cards and letters from friends that mean alot to me.

I'm just a sentimental fool at heart, but I think it's good to have memories.

I keep the letters my husband wrote while we were dating. The postcards I received from my Great Grandma Sophie when she was traveling. A rock my Grandpa Phil dug up in his back yard and gave to me when I was a kid. In recent years I've parted with many little knick knacks but somethings have too many memories attached to them.

Keepsakes? Are those the things I have to dust or the ones tucked away? I have the only picture my dad drew, a lighthouse my sister painted, our son's drawings, (the framed ones)but I still have son't batism outfit, and a white porcelin elephant from my paternal grandmother. But strangely I still have my wedding dressed, boxed sealed and who is ever going to want it?

another keepsake that was passed on from my wife and i passed on this last friday night at a baby shower, was my son's first romper's to his very pregnant daughter ....... keepsake still in the family.
