We adopted a "stray" nuetered maled from the local humane society. He's a great cat and certainly bosses the Newfie and Airedale around and is fearless. After describing his behaviors to an owner of a 20yr old maine coon cat, it was suggested that he may be part Maine coon Cat......my question is this: what are typical behaviors and physical traits? His body type fits the descriptions I've read, he has furry feet and 6 toes in front and 5 in back, plume-like tail. Buff/tan color. He LOVES water, sits in the sink, plays with water, stares at the drain pipe outside, loves people food, comes when he's called... He's so un-like the cat i had for 20 years and I'm curious to learn more about the breed. i'm a little worried about the Christmas tree! thanks for responding. enjoy the holidays!

Hi Paula,

I have a 6 month Maine Coon kitten who has the same traits as the cat you have adopted. They definitely are fearless, mine loves the vacuum cleaner unlike any other cat I've owned. He also loves water, people and food, not necessarily in that order. Anyway other traits include a very goofy, affectionate nature, perching themselves on the highest possible spot they can get to and pushing every button, latch and what have you around the house. "Cooper" has turned on the computer, shut off the answering machine, lights, etc. They are intelligent, curious and absolutely adorable. Cooper also loves to sleep on his back with his feet in the air. There's really no end to their escapades but they always leave you laughing. Physically, they are sturdily built with long shaggy fur around the neck and underside. They have tufted ears with lynx points and tufted toes. Their heads are large and square with wide expressive eyes. If your cat is a Maine Coon, you are lucky indeed because this is truly a wonderful breed, but even if he isn't, I'm sure he'll be a wonderful companion and kudos to you for adopting him. Hi again, Forgot to mention in my previous, we've had our Christmas tree up for over a week and no problems so far, Cooper loves to lay underneath with the presents but has shown no interest in climbing (whew!). Hope you're just as lucky. Lisa
