I bought a lined space blanket, silver on one side, blue plastic on the other.

To test it, I wrapped myself in it, silver side to the body and waited (this was while watching TV). Nothing happened, I did not feel any warmer.

Am I doing something wrong??

I read a post somewhere where a guy said he was camping in snow at a high elevation. He put the space thing on the bottom of his sleeping bag, then wrapped a thermal blanket around him. He said he was roasting in no time.

I remember having one of those blankets years ago in Scouts. Took it to Philmont for the 50-mile hike....Couldn't completely wrap it around myself, but I did end up soaking wet with sweat, which made it uncomfortable when the cold air whistled in!

I stole this idea from another forum. Fold survival blanket. On the fold, and centered, cut a slit long enough for your head to pass through. Have the wife sew bias tape on both sides of the slit to keep the it from tearing.

Wear the survival blanket as a liner under a hooded GI poncho. Snap the sides of the poncho so your hands will be free.

If you must remain in the woods overnight sit with back to tree, insulate your bottom from the cold ground, and place a lighted candle in an empty can for example at your feet. The heat from the singnle candle will keep you fairly warm.

The lined blankets are also a great way to close off a warm room from the rest of the house.
