how do I make ground glass?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Large format photography : One Thread |
Hello,Well, I was using my 4x5 as an enlarger, and to make a long story short, my ground glass got smashed. I could buy a new one, but I'd like to try and make one first. I remember seeing an article/posting some months ago on this subject, but I can't seem to locate it now. Does anyone know the recipe for ground glass?

You will find instructions in my View Camera Construction FAQ: http://home.sol.no/~gjon/lffaq.htm

I used Jon's directions and found them very good. I used valve grinding compound bought at a NAPA auto parts store. If you clamp one piece of glass on the workbench you can grab the ground-glass-to-be and move it in a circular motion over the base piece of glass with the grinding compound in between. It only takes about 15 minutes.
