Maybe not deleted, but something I wanted to say...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Deleted Thread : One Thread

You all know me, so you know that I am regarded as a rather unliked individual around these parts. However... I want to say that I do not hold one BIT of disdain for people who wanted to prepare to be safe. I would also like to say that for the most part I see a great number of people who do in fact have a good mind set for this day and age. They know that life is unpredictable, and they know that they should not trust a larger, faceless government to look out for their best interests.

Certaintly this issue has become quite polarized over the last year. It has lead to some people taking sides, much name calling, and a tremendous amount of bitterness on both sides, polly and doomer alike. This is only natural, and I lay no blame on anyone for getting emotionally carried away in the Millennium rush. Just to let you know that I am not without feelings for how you people feel, I will take this moment to let you know that is was I who authored the short story about Ned in Atlanta, many months ago, under the Anonymous handle. Beleieve me, I sypmathized with how you felt, and feel today. Maybe some of you remember the story, and you could obviously see that I was capable of seeing the end of the world as we know it, in one form or another.

I can only take objection with the profiteering from the fear of Y2K, or any yet-to-come disaster. People should not put themselves in a position of power and expect to be able to give answers about the unknown. I take great offense to Ed Yourdon's tactics, his book sales, and video. All these things were unneccessary, and anyone who has made one dime of Y2K prepardness __________ (kits, books, videos, seminars, tv segments, etc.) cannot be trusted to have the best interest of the viewing audience in mind. Any profit that has been made from the speculation of Y2K is, in my mind, dirty money. This prepardness information is free on the internet, and I assure you that anyone who is living in a natural disaster zone has the intellect and wisdom to know how to deal with future disturbances, without the help of any marketed material. I live in the south, and have long sicne been indoctrined into the possible dmages caused by tornados and hurricanes. At one point a tornado completely destroyed a gas station that I used to frequent. I gaurentee, I know firsthand about unpredictability.

But I digress from the point, which I want to clearly make. I do not dislike "doomers". I do not harbor any feelings of mistrust, or hatred for people who want to be free from the shackles of the federal government. I am not regressing to an adolescent stage when I point out that mistakes were made, and false prophesizing commited. I am not going to "march" against anyone. I do however believe, in my heart, that people shoule be held accountable for their words. I type these words out very carefully with that in mind.

North strikes me as a man who has made his life making a living off the worst side of humanity.

Yourdon is a man, by my calculation, who has seen the benefits of that gravy train, and has followed suit.

Hyatt, Hamisaki, Milne... all the same. Individuals who would convince you that they are qualified to be beacons of fact, for a galaxy of information. How could anyone know so much, about such an infinite amount?

Sometimes, I think, just because a person's last name is so popular, others think that they have the inside scoop. I don't post my name, because I wish to be no more than a thought. Or an idea. Right or wrong (especially right) I would not like to have people say "______________ was right about Y2K". I don't want fame, I don't want popularity. I've been here all along to try and be a catylst for the truth. Believe it or not, I don't want attention, or recognition.

Well, I really have decided not to post here anymore. Simply because that after the hysteria of Y2K has been burned out, there is no need for me to be here. You are all welcome to have your forum and discuss whatever you want here. When I was posting though, and being routinely deleted, I took it as an insult. Not everything I said was childish crap, and not everything I did was trollish behavior. I tried to connect in as many ways possible to all of you, and unfortunatley the basic premise from the Sysops was to throw the baby out with the bathwater. A theory, I'm sad to say, that has long been regarded as the norm. I hope, if nothing else, that my actions in the last year have caused at least some to rethink the idea of censorship and segregation of ideas.

So to conclude, I wish you all the best luck in the new year. I hope you all find a chance to see just how wonderul life is, and a chance to go outside, take a deep breath (chemtrail free) and know that there is SO much to be thankful for, and that life will go on. And more importantly that when life goes on, it is what you make it...

I hope you make it a good one.

(Oh, and to those easily offended I offer apollogies for the handle. Nothing personal meant by it... =o)
