assignment onegreenspun.com : LUSENET : Walsh Intro to Philosophy : One Thread |
The role and purpose of Philosophy is the study of reality by reflecting on many issues that deal with life. The Oxford dictionary defines reality as "the real nature." The lines that were set by the ancient Greeks dealt with such topics as truth, knowledge, happiness goodness, government, and God. All of these topics deal with human life. When I read the introduction in the book I got the feeling that philosophers were skeptics. I disagree with this because in my opinion a skeptic is a person who is never satisfied with an answer other than there own. I do agree with Chris Sauer when he said "Philosophy requires a conscious effort to ignore the common answers and explore new solutions." I believe this for the rason that there are so many social groups and it is extremely hard to break away from the norm and look at things from a different point of view.
