does any one else out there have a maine coon cat who simply LOVES his female owner's hair? i can't keep him out of mine! he sleeps on my head at night - after about an hour of kneading my head/scalp - does this mean he misses his mommy or something? i don't mind it - it's just weird and i wondered if it's a 'coon trait or something. thanks!

You are not alone!! My 10 mo.old Maine Coon has been doing this from the time we brought him home. He'll go to bed when we do and around 3:30 or 4:00 a.m. will climb onto my head and start licking my hair and purring. I've tried putting the pillow over my head and he gets really persistent. He'll poke his head under the pillow and touch my face with his paws and make little meows. Now, whether I want to be or not, I'm awake and I start to laugh.Well, that's all he needs is to hear me make a noise. He wants me up and talking to him and giving him breakfast. Needless to say, we don't get to sleep in anymore. It's almost like having a baby in the house again.
In fact, he is our baby and he knows it. I love this breed. Shadow is my second Maine Coon and I wouldn't have any other after getting to know these cats.

When I'm sitting on the couch at night watching TV, one of my Maine Coons will lie on the top behind my shoulders. He will put the top half of his body on top of my head with his paws out over my glasses. As he is doing all this he is also licking my hair. After he is finished with one spot, he'll start on another. Sometimes my hair becomes quite wet!

My eleven month old Maine Coon sleeps right above my head and shares my pillow with me every night. He rests the side of his head on the pillow and then places his paw on my cheek. He is so cute and so loveable. In the morning he makes little "chirping" noises until I open my eyes and look at him. What a GREAT companion!!!

At around 5:00am, Chilli, my 3 year old Maine Coon, will knead my hair and scalp until I lift the covers and let him under. Then he will curl up against my body and rest his head on my arm close to my face. Its the sweetest thing!
