"All in the Family" (was: "ER was good, but a little dissappointing")

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

I must say that ER was good tonight although I was a little suprised that it wasn't more of a tear jerker. It was more solemn than sad I guess is what I'm trying to say. I expected a lot of tears. Dr Corday is excellent! I guess I was a little dissappointed that there was no bigger deal made out of Lucy's death. Just My Opinion.

Response to ER was good, but a little dissappointing

I thought it was really sad. I regret having missed a few episodes over the past few weeks...but im glad I made this one. Question though...Why did they cut Kelly out of the show? Was her contract up or did she want to leave? Just curious. Im sorry to see her go.

thanx for those who answer. hooked

Response to ER was good, but a little dissappointing

I think it was better this way. They could have made it a long drawn out melodramatic thing. I half expected a scene with Carter holding Lucy's hand while she died saying it wasn't his fault.

I thought the more subtle reactions of the characters were excellent. The look Weaver gives Greene was awesome. You can see it barely flicker across his face that he knows.

I think the bigger deal will be made in the episodes to come. Carter is going to be one screwed up puppy for a w

Response to ER was good, but a little dissappointing

I thought it was a complete tear jearker... I was quite surprised at myself, all of the crying that I did. It was just so sad, how Lucy was awake and Romano and Lizzie were so intent on saving her. Excellent episode.

Response to ER was good, but a little dissappointing

No way--this episode was very sad. I cried the whole way through- AND I ALREADY KNEW WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN!!

If you weren't moved by tonite's show- double check to make sure you still have a heart.

Tonight was too soon for weeping. Take into account the whole series of events...and you can understand why the reactions were letter perfect. The tears and the guilt will pour out later, as the fatigue and shock wear off. Look for those moments in a memorial service sometime soon.

The best moment of the show, in my opinion, came when we saw the very raw human side of the man whose only friend looked to be his dog. The reaction of Dr. Romano was an splendid a moment as the show has had. I loved it. It was perhaps the only scene which really touched an emotion in me...perhaps because I am rather non emotional myself, most of the time. His helpless and frustrated anger...his unwillingness to let her go...and in the end, making sure she was as wholeas he could make her....I loved that.

Response to ER was good, but a little dissappointing

I thought tonight's episode was excellent, but extremely sad. I didn't know what was coming and I was totally blown away. Seeing next week's previews, it does look like they are moving on rather quickly. Hopefully not. I will miss Lucy, but on a brighter side, Carter looks like he will recover. I'm glad I stumbled upon this site, I was feeling pretty sad, but reading all the posts helped. Thanks!

Response to ER was good, but a little dissappointing

I would have to say this was one of the best ER episodes I have ever watched. I cried from 9:05p to 10:00pm. From the time Weaver walked into the door of the patient's room to the time Weaver pulled the sheet over Lucy, I was having a crying party. For me, the parts that moved me the most were when the trach tube was removed from Lucy's throat and she told Corday "thank you" and the scene where Romano and Corday try to save Lucy. Tonight showed the human side of Weaver, Romano, and Benton. Yet, Carol's reaction was very flippant. I, too, have been disappointed by the previews of next week. Surely, they will have a memorial service for Lucy or something! She was a member of that cast week after week. Even though ER is just a show, and Lucy Knight was just a character--she still entered our homes every Thursday night. I will miss her presence on the show, and hope that ER will at least give her a memorial service!

Response to ER was good, but a little dissappointing

Tonight episode was definately sad :(

Even though I knew she was going to die, I was still hoping that she would make it. And even though it broke my heart I really couldn't cry that much, I think me feelings were similiar to the rest of the staffs, shock and anger. I was soooo very angry at that psych. patient. I think my tears will really start to flow in upcoming episodes.

Dr. Romano's reaction was expected I thought, with all he and Lucy went through together with the heart transplant patient. Lucy was able to touch a side of him that none of the other docs have been able to do.

Response to ER was good, but a little dissappointing

I was totally blown away with tonights episode. It was the most powerful one this season. I really hate to see Lucy go -- she was one of my favorite characters. I think Kellie Martin did a fantastic time bringing her to life -- and now death. They could have, and should have, done so much more with her. And now there seems to be too many new faces that it's hard to latch onto anyone. Once Carol leaves it won't be the same anymore.

Response to ER was good, but a little dissappointing

I agree with Amber. When Lucy practically forced Robert to do that heart surgery, he gained respect for her that he doesn't feel for anyone else, and he showed it when he said that about her training.

Response to ER was good, but a little dissappointing

I was surprised also that more emotion wasen't used. I think Dr Romano & Dr Corday were excellent but I was so surprised that there wasen't even a song or anything. Noone else came to see Lucy's body it was like it didn't happen in any of their worlds. And what happened to Mark & Corday's parents? Wasen't Mark taking them somewhere? They just kinda vanished.

Response to ER was good, but a little dissappointing

I agree that it was subtle but beautifully done. I especially liked Dr. Corday, a really special performance, it actually hurt to watch her and Dr. Romano (maybe not such a jerk after all) give up on Lucy.

BTW I think it would be very screwed up if they just moved on in the next episode. I don't think we the viewers have digested this yet, and it seems disrespectful to us and the characters to just pretend like it didn't happen. I don't know if the previews were completely accurate but if that's what the episode is about then it's a mistake.

I think this one was best this season. It's weird but I still feel kind of sad about it.

Response to ER was good, but a little dissappointing

annie, i also thought that some of the staff would go see lucy after they clenaed her up, to say goodbye to her. i was sure Carter would have asked to be wheeled in, on his bed, to touch her hand, and say "im sorry". that would've made for a great scene!

Response to ER was good, but a little dissappointing

I also was surprised it wasn't more wrenching (and this comes from someone who cries during practically EVERY ER episode at least once.) I was doing more shaking than crying. Maybe, though, it's because I knew what was giong to happen, and I was always WAITING. . . waiting for Kerri to find them, waiting for Carter to wake up, waiting for Lucy to die. . . I guess I wish I hadn't known.

Response to ER was good, but a little dissappointing

Maybe you were a little disappointed because of all the hype and built-up expectations, especially after such a powerful ending to "Be Still".

But even though I'm a fairly emotional person I can only remember getting teary-eyed twice watching E.R. Once was during "Love's Labor Lost". The other was last night.

Response to ER was good, but a little dissappointing

Well my response was definitely tears. I believe I really had the tears flowing when Lucy was crashing. And I think it was a very emotional show. How could you not cry to see all the reactions of disbelief on every ones face? The only response that does not make sense to me is Carol? What was that reaction all about?? It was good to see reaction from Weaver, Benton, Corday and Romano.
