During the scene where they were discussing how it happened, they hunted that it may have been Carter's fault? Was it? What could they have done to stop it?

Response to was it Carters faut?

I think it was Carter's fault - in a way. He dismissed Lucy rather abruptly in last week's episode, and told her to stay with that dude until someone from Psych arrived.

I have a feeling that he'll be going through some SERIOUS guilt in the next few weeks/months!

NO, NO, NO it was NOT Carter's fault!! (Although I'm sure HE thinks it is) NO ONE could have forseen what would happen. He was just having a bad day. It's as much Mark's fault as it is Carter's. Or for that matter, might as well blame the whole ER for having the music so loud when they knew a patient might have needed them.

I have thought about this. So many people were indirectly responsible for what happened: 1) Carter, for blowing her off left and right especially when she suspected schizophrenia. 2)Green, just from the comments made at the end of the show. I didn't realize he was supposed to keep an eye on Carter. 3)Whoever left the knife out in the lounge, 4)Psych, for not getting his butt down there faster.

Also, though I hate to say it about the deceased, it was partially Lucy's fault too. She could've enforced that Psych get their butts down their faster and she should've had big, strong, Malik stay with him like Carter said.

It's technically noone's fault and it's everyone's fault. If only one of the CCs points had been taken, this might not've happened.

IN NO WAY WAS IT CARTER"S FAULT!!!!!!!

He told Lucy to have Malik stay with Paul until Psych arrived, if you remember. She insisted she stay.

One of things I do not understand in life, is WHY everyone needs someone to blame when things go wrong. When things go right, do we immediately seek out someone to praise? Certainly, in a tragedy such as this, it is a natural reaction to point fingers, but does it bring Lucy back?

I think Mark had the best answer for this when Abby made a mistake on her 1st day -- learn from from it. I truly believe Mark learned from his mistakes in Loves Labor Lost and Carter will be a more aware teacher.

The bottom line is Lucy never learned to listen. It was the main cause of friction between them. Her lack of respct for Carter in NOT having Malik watch the patient may have let to her demise. I maintain, although Paul Sobricki was behaving strangely, there was nothing in is initial behavior to have Mark step in and overrule Lucy and Carter. I believe if Kerry were there, she would have handled things in the same way. There was no reason to have him in restraints.

Well, she did ask Malik to watch him before he got out of the room the first time. She obviously felt that Malik couldn't be trusted, and she started to communicate that to Carter the last time they spoke, but he was already blowing her off and down the hall. Carter doesn't deserve all the blame any more than Lucy would, but they each were culpable to some extent. (I'd really like to know when Malik got his mannicure that he was showing off in this last episode. Would hate to know he'd left during his shift to get it done.)

I will say it very simply: It was no one fault, but it was everyone's fault. What I mean was that no one could have known what was going to happen, but, if you really thought about it, if one person had done just *one* thing differently, maybe nothing would have happened. If Carter hadn't blown off Lucy, if Mark had watched them both (Lucy and Carter) more closely, if Yosh hadn't given Lucy the valentine that Carter saw on the ground and picked up, instead of leaving like he was about to, if Psic (sorry about my spelling!) hadn't been backed up, ectera. See what I mean? But you can't blame them because they didn't know what was going to happen, so, no, it wasn't Carter fault.
