Hello. I had gotten a kitten from a local animal shelter almost 11 years ago. He melted my heart. I've never known what breed he is. He's been my baby ever since. A few years ago at the vet a gentleman approached me and said, "That has to be one of the most beautiful Maine Coons I've ever seen." That was the first time I'd heard of the breed. Is there any specific characteristic that would tell me if what I have is a Maine Coon? Please let me know. I'm very curious. Thanks! Christine

One of the most enchanting characteristics of a Maine Coon is their "trill" sound. Some people describe it as sounding like a pigeon cooing. My MCs go throughout the house trilling, expecially if they're feeling particularly happy.
