Welcome to the "TB2K Spinoff Uncensored" forum. This forum was started in response to Ed Yourdon having closed his original TimeBomb 2000 forum on Lusenet and moved it to a strongly moderated and censored forum on EZboard. This forum is an attempt to recapture the free flowing discussions that used to take place on Ed Yourdon's original forum. Everyone is welcome to post. All that is asked is to refrain from spamming, and please use basic Netiquette.

Good to see some responses already.

At the moment I'm busy setting up the forum with categories and reference links on the old board. You'll notice I copied the old categories, but left out a few that were not as relevant and/or used as much.

I'm wide open to suggestions.

Just for sentiments sake, I'll stop in and wish you all the luck in the world. I had a lot of fun on the old TB2000, prior to May of 99, when the censorship started.

I'll take the result of last fall to show as proof that censorship does not lead to correct conclusions.

After several acrimonious fights over that, I decided to let it go and move on. I never had any anger at the average forum poster, just the heavy handed, one sided moderation and their pet trolls, who were allowed to spit on non-doomers all they wanted, but the non-doomers were never to spit back.

This appears to be part of the features of the software. Posts made by whoever is designated as the administrator of the site will automatically appear at the top of the list of answers. I saw it on the old TimeBomb. Try typing in a different email address.

This place seems fine to me. But I do hope I won't be discouraged from disagreeing with people. After all, if there were a better opinion than mine I would hold it [grin]. I'm trying to talk a lot of people into coming here, and my mailbox is overflowing right now. But I'll try to come out of my shell and say a few words now and then.

There was an outcry at your being banned from Ed's new forum, along with others dissenting people who followed the rules.

I want to be clear that my only intent with this "spinoff" forum is to allow every side to speak out. This is NOT a "Polly" nor a "Doomer" forum. As administrator, I will let anyone speak up for what they believe in and want to contribute regarding Y2K (and other topics, since anything seem to have a connection to Y2K in some way.)

But, (there's always a but), I'll keep an eye on Netiquette, and try to be fair to everyone. I was very vocal against moderation on Ed's original forum when the issue of moderation came about.

So please everyone, let us start on a clean slate. Everyone is forgiven for their past "sins". Let us not repeat the errors of Ed's old forum so we can give this new one a chance at freedom of speech and freeflow of information. Lets use civility as much as possible.

Confessions are so good for the soul department

For the past 20 months my many alter egos and I have been regulars at the TB2000 forum. When a subject was within my scope of knowledge I would respond in hopefully an intelligent manner. For the most part however, I found myself venting my anger at the morons and idiots that seemed to be controlling the bulk of the posts. This of course garnered much love for my various handles but it seemed necessary to oppose the stench coming from the likes of Hawk, AisAsia, etc. Although it was not a high priority, weaning myself off that site was becoming somewhat important.

Thankfully, that decision has been taken out of my hands and it is time to move along. I appreciate the efforts of whoever has put this forum together and Ill lurk around and see who lands here. Hopefully, the new mutant nesting place will keep them contained and free up the good folks to gather here. I predict that Ed Yourdon will quickly grow weary of his new houseguests and that place will crumble around his latest thought for profit scheme.

Thanks Old forum regular! I hope this forum works! I'm still trying to get over the shock of the move to the new board on EZboard. I'm extremely disappointed with Ed and his decisions to ban and censor so heavily.

I can't stop laughing. This is the best thing I think I've ever seen. I would really like to know just what Mr. Yourdon's role has been in all this, however. I can't escape the feeling that we've been manipulated, but I don't mind. I'm going to live here and go next door to learn how to make those neat pictures and see if that board picks up on things we miss as far as important items. Like having a colorful neighbor that you want to hang around with and be friends but would really not marry.

After discovering the news on TB2K about Flint's banning, and picking my jaw off the floor, I wish to declare:

I am shocked and astonished that Flint was deliberately banned from Ed's new forum.

Those who cited Flint's "anthill" quote in support of the ban are clearly taking it the wrong way. This is a prime example of the sort of misunderstanding, all-too-common on the Internet unfortunately, that can occur when text is unaccompanied by the voice inflections, body language, and other context in which we normally interpret spoken words. I am grieved by the number of posters who, apparently unfamiliar with Flint's typical TB2K postings, are being misled into an unfairly negative opinion of him. I ask that both they and others, such as the sysops who should know better, who were offended by the "anthill" remark reconsider that they may have misinterpreted it.

I agree with you No Spam. I've been on the internet for over 10 years, and I've learned a lot about people psychology (call it net-psychology) over the years. And I've seen too often what moderation does to a forum. No one is above abuse of power, our egos are just too strong and it takes over even if unconsciously.

Un-moderated forums are hard to get used to, the flamings tend to get out of hand too often, but if you've been around the net long enough you'll develop a thick flameproof-hide and learn to ignore the offenders. The internet and un-moderated forums are our only hope to guard against brainwashings, thought police, and for the pursuit of truth. It is hard to listen to opposite views as our own, but not doing it is letting ourselves be "sheeples" and manipulated.

This is the REAL spirit of this site. Aw shoot. There I went again. I got so excited about seeing a familiar format and so many 'family' names that I went & opened a new thread before I read through the posts. (cha-grin!)

When I followed the thread from ezboard, I felt much like I did when the old TB2K went under at the end of last year. RELIEF!!!

As for censorship on the forum, isn't that what the left-mouse button is for? Reading offensive writing is not compulsory, is it? Don't we all have free will? As long as it doesn't enable or cause the exploitation of the helpless (children, for example) why would we want anyone to judge what should be available to us?

Cookies? I don't need no steenkeen cookies!!! Nor passwords nor moderators nor waiting 20 seconds to open a 2 line post. I had never particularly liked Greenspun's protocol until I went back to typical Usenet style on EZ.

I never weighed in on the censorship issue, but after having seen the draconian example of moderation displayed on the new EZ2K forum, I'm appalled and saddened. The spammers may have beaten Yourdon's crew---chasing them off Phil's board. But, in the long run, it is we who have won---those of us who cherish the right to speak our minds as we see fit, and accept the responsibility to do so civilly if not always elegantly.

After having been personally spammed from the old TB2K, I'm delighted to be able to return to using my real alias and Email address.
