NIKON: Two questions which were asked in another forumgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread |
Two questions for Nikon that were asked in another forum by mistake:Name:Alexander E-Mail:eymannx@kootenay.com Comment: Nikon: Compairing prints taken with the 990 against prints from the d1, I can not see that much of a difference. Is the d1 overpriced, or the 990 such a terific bargen?
Name:Mark P E-Mail:digismurf@yahoo.com Comment: Is it true the Nikon will produce a remote shutter release for the CP990? If so, will it be a wired remote or wireless?
Is it true Nikon is producing a 3x teleconverter for the CP cameras? If so will it make it to market at the same time as the 990?
Thank you I look forward to your response.

1) Sometimes I think the D1 is underpriced for what it offers: In the short: The D1 allows use of virtually all Nikon lenses from 1959 until the present (no one else can even come close). You have a myriad of lighting options. You have ISO ranges from 200-1600 (and up to 6400 in custom settings) as opposed to 100-400 in the Coolpix series. When you need to crop in the D1-you have much greater room on the D1 due to it's extraordinary dynamic range and large pixels.
The D1 lenses have much more control of depth of field (remember Coolpix lenses are a focal length of 8-24 (990) 7-21 (950) and 5.8- 17mm (900/900s) which have an incredible amount of depth of field at F2.5----so you cannot soften the background easily on a Coolpix.
You have much faster autofocus and shooting (4.5 frames per second up to 21 frames on a D1!!!!)
Now is the 990 a bargain-well "I call it.....Mini D"
The 990 is no substitute for a D1-but it should satisfy most people's entry into digital photography and makes a great second or third camera in a D1 owner's or any camera owner's bag. I think it is a terrific bargain for what it offers.
