Is a digital camera really usefull for me ?greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread |
helloi'm a student from belgium (europe)
i'm fond of taking pictures the normal 10x15 (cm) pictures are enough for me
maybe an enlargment sometimes is also nice..
Can anybody help me answering this questions
a) is a digital camera as good as a normal camera ?
b) can i print my digital images on REAL photopaper somewhere (like on the internet ?), i don't have a photo-printer or inktjet, and IF i want to get my photos on paper theY REALLY need to be on photopaper.. anyone know the prices ? And is the quality as good as a NORMAL camera ?
c) i need a cam with enough storage (like a microdrive) is this a good idea ?
d) i want to buy the CASIO - QV-3000EX with the microdrive, anyone got experiences from this already ?
thanks for answering..

For nice 10x15 cms prints a 1.3 or 1.5 megapixel camera is quite sufficient. 2 or 3 megapixel cameras allow for more cropping and/or can produce bigger prints.Yes, you can have them printed on normal photopaper. On the internet, yes. But quite a few photoshops offer this service as well, by now.
How much memory you need is more difficult to say. It would depend on the use (tiff versus jpeg, single events versus holidays etc.). I work with 5 smartmedia cards (1.3 megapixel camera), totalling 36 MB and feel that's quite enough. On holidays I use a laptop that I leave in my hotelroom.

I would also recommend that you should be fairly comfortable messing around with computers. If you and computers don't mix, I wouldn't recommend it. However, if you are comfortable, I think you'll be much happier with a digital camera with its greater versatility, etc. than an "analog" one.
