Help with Shadows for Close up Macros w/ Sony 505

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Hi all, I have a Sony F505 that I am pleased with but...I take a lot of close up Macro shots of medical stuff (Skin rashes, wounds, moles etc.) and I am trying to improve my technique. When I get close ~ 5" or so, it is hard to avoid casting a shadow with the lens of the F505. The lighting in my medical office is stand flourescent. I need to keep the camera and accessories very portable (we have 20 exam rooms). The flash obvious casts a shadow and it too bright anyway. Any thoughts on some kind of battery operated side light? A ring light/flash would be great but the camera doesn't support one. Any Tips? Thanks, Phillip

I just answered this question for a dentist, so I'll repeat it again for you. If you need a portable light source, consider one of two simple tricks to shed more light: a piece of stiff cardboard covered with tinfoil or a mirror. It doesn't have to be expensive to work efficiently - it just has to do the job of redirecting light onto your subject.
