War Kicks Ass

>interior control>"WARNING! This post has been deemed lowbrow" -- *Aw man*... i just watched War again, that one is frikin' AWESOME! hehehehe... you know what's almost hilarious because it's so rock solid cool? Some of these warriors' physical attitude or posture while they're in battle with full automatic weapons. Like in the beginning, where the swarm of Monicans is running up the hill at Varsh, and the one is down on his knees firing, all peaceful like! And then Varsh as he slides down the grappling rope - he looks like a freakin' ballerina, hehehehe! I love it! This one kicks ass i say!

Yeah it does doesn't it. One of the things I like about War is the constant betrayal of our expectations. Aeon dies at the beginning to be replaced with a gun-toting Breen, who is killed by a sword-weilding Monican (in a reversal of Indiana Jones' scene where Indy just shoots the guy trying to intimidate him with his weapon), then, in a brilliant scene the Monican dispaches a few goons in split second intervals, then is cut down just as quickly himself. Makes you think... all in all, this short (like the whole series) is less about nihilistic, stylized violence and more about Chung's sense of humanity. Don't get me wrong, I dig the stylized violence but... did you ever see Grave Of The Fireflies? Well that's War in a nutshell.

Heh, for a second there I thought you meant in the general sense...

Yeah, that too! The animation is fantastic, and the art, music... everything is kickass in this one! Funny, it took a while, but the shorts grew on me. (War is my 3rd favorite, after Gravity & Tide)

Umm, wait... you were asking whether I thought the episode War kicked ass or not, weren't you? I think I misinterpreted (that's the problem with message boards, all your thoughts recorded for posterity).

In truth, i sort of was. My intention in posting this one was just to vent my enthusiasms at you people since i know no one in 3 dimensions who digs Fon Flux like we do. I wasn't expecting a certain kind of response, so any i get are fine. I've never seen Grave Of The Fireflies, but if it's anything like War it kicks ass! ( hehe ). I say it "kicks ass" only because it's so ridiculously violent and that seems the appropriate praise (it's the only Fon episode i would describe as kick ass): no one fires short blasts of ammo, they just spray continuously, and i liked the contrast of full-automatic warfare with the nonchalant, almost dainty postures assumed by most of the soldiers as they blast away like they have unlimited ammunition. To me it just makes the whole situation they're in look all the more ridiculous - the great thing is it looks cool at the same time. I think Chung is pointing out the ridiculousness and futility of war the entire time, especially with the ending - i think they slip in the lubricant, which looks like blood (reminding the viewer of all the blood spilled just to free that one Breen), and are killed by their pursuer(s). Yeah, i like the art and music too; too bad some of 3rd season's art wasn't as good. I tricked eskimonkey with my capital letters in the title

Oh, so that's what he meant. Eskimonkey, you have a very black mind indeed (insert laugh track here)

Kicks ass you say, but your words are pure poetry to another flux fan. Watching it again with insight from you guys made it all the more enjoyable. Boy, it sure is great to have a site like this.

W' thank you, thank you very much (in best Elvis or Johnny Bravo impression)

Cute.

"I know no one in 3 dimensions who digs Aeon Flux like we do". Hey Stonce, want to hear an even stranger story? I actually know 2 guys who think it's great, but we're not great friends (maybe because they're work/play hard types and I'm a slacker aesthete) and rarely do our paths meet in the real world, let alone cyberspace. Perhaps the real purpose of the Internet is to break down our rigid emotional conditioning and lead to a wider definition of "social skills", away from the all too common "pack mentality". Something to think about...

-- Paul D. Gilbreath (gilbreathfamily@worldnet.att.net), May 07, 2000.

That's exactly what i was thinking also. Even age is of no great import here in cyberspace, as long as you can type. Maybe, in the future when internet-type technologies become cheaper, smaller and completely saturate our populace, we will adopt the barrier-free communication the 'net makes possible into our 3D relations as well.

What if this is the only pack your mental with? And Paul, sometimes I think your beautiful,..

Hey wait a sec.....ok so the breens went to war over just that one breen prisoner? Well what about when that monican sword guy killed that breen...he was protecting that child...was he not? i really like this short it's also my thrid favorite.....i love the whole war aspect of it....war never solves anything it just results in death and hatred....

-- Lady Morgan (Aeonfluxfan1@Aol.com), May 13, 2000.

The purpose of the war is unknown and inconsequential. I didn't mean to sound as if I thought the war was being fought just to free that one breen, rather that many lives were taken in the process of trying to save his. Hmm... yes, that little girl *was* dressed in breen-like colors, wasn't she?

-- Stonce Anomi (neobe@kscable.com), May 13, 2000.

you know, I wasn't in on Aeon from the beginning, where did War come in? Was this just before the series got to dialogue? Watching it I almost get the feeling they were playing with characters that never were enlarged upon, but Aeon was. Am I wrong?

-- Barb e. (Suesuesbeo@aol.com), May 17, 2000.

I don't know the chronology of the 2nd season either.
