Lilies -- yeah!greenspun.com : LUSENET : garden project : One Thread |
I think the best thing I ever planted (back in the early eighties, when I had a garden) was the big sack of mixed no-name lily bulbs from White flower farm. For the amount of work (not much after preparing the bed) I got incredible impact in the yard, and plenty of flowers for cutting, and even for giving away.So keep going on the lilies, I say!

Oh, yes, I am a lily fanatic; I completely agree with you about how rewarding and easy they are. I would have had lots of beautiful lily photos last year if I had (a) owned a digital camera and (b) not gone on a lengthy hiatus during lily season. I've just always heard they don't do well (too hot in the summer, too wet in the winter), so I didn't expect them to go forth and multiply like they did. Mine are doing great, and I didn't plant any at all last year.I did notice that some of them have moved into flower beds where I never planted any lilies; I'll attribute that to the squirrels.
